'Liverpool are not Barcelona' - Arsene Wenger sends Reds reminder after poor form

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has explained why Liverpool were able to overcome Leipzig in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Reds recorded an excellent 2-0 victory against their Bundesliga opponents thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

The result follows a difficult period for Jurgen Klopp's side in which they have won just two Premier League games in their last 10.

However, Wenger believes that playing in Europe allowed Liverpool to forget the "psychological problems" they have been facing in the domestic competition.

He also hit out at Barcelona - following their 4-1 defeat at the Camp Nou to Paris Saint-Germain - suggesting that the Reds were not like the Catalan giants.

He told beIN Sports : "Liverpool are not Barcelona, Liverpool is a good team.

"They did underperform for a few weeks but they have the potential.

"They are lacking a bit of confidence in the Premier League but sometimes when you play in a different competition you don't have the same psychological problems and that's why they won [against Leipzig].

"We saw again, so many players instead of playing forwards they play back which causes problems for their team.

"When Leipzig play the back pass for the first goal he could have played it forwards back to the same player but Liverpool are quality, and they will come back."
