'Liverpool are next!' - Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham fans react to Dutch FA announcement

Fans from Premier League clubs have been reacting to the news that the Dutch FA has decided to end the 2019/20 Eredivisie season.

This has had a major affect on current league leaders Ajax.

Last season's Champions League semi-finalists lead the table on goal difference over AZ Alkmaar with nine league matches left to be played.

Who's played the most Premier League minutes?

But they have been denied the Eredivisie title after it was confirmed there would be no 2019/20 league champions in the Netherlands.

Equally, ADO Den Haag and RKC Waalwijk, who currently reside in the Eredivisie relegation zone, will not be relegated from the top-tier of Dutch football, which could come as welcome news to Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Norwich City.

However, if the Premier League were to take this approach then it would be terrible news for one club in particular.

Liverpool, who lead the Premier League by 25 points, are two wins away from clinching a first league title in three decades but a similar decision to that of the Netherlands would deny them a big celebration in controversial fashion.

With that said, some rival fans are not against that proposal.

Below is what's been said on Twitter by a selection of Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United supporters...

What is good news for the Reds is that UEFA have urged every nation to explore the possibility of completing the domestic seasons.

"As a result of representations made by the football authorities in Belgium and Scotland, the Committee recognises the issues raised and approved the Guidelines on eligibility principles for 2020/21 UEFA club competitions," a statement reads. "The Guidelines reflect the principle that admission to UEFA club competitions is always based on sporting merit.

"Therefore, UEFA urges National Associations and Leagues to explore all possible options to play all top domestic competitions giving access to UEFA club competitions to their natural conclusion. However, UEFA stresses that the health of players, spectators and all those involved in football as well as the public at large must remain the primary concern at this time.

"The ideal scenario, should the pandemic situation permit it, is to have the currently suspended domestic competitions completed enabling football clubs to qualify for UEFA club competitions on sporting merit in their original format.

"Should this outcome not be possible, in particular due to calendar issues, it would be preferable that suspended domestic competitions would restart with a different format in a manner which would still facilitate clubs to qualify on sporting merit."
