Liverpool have announced that the club will begin Covid-19 spot checks for fans and staff, starting with the game against Manchester City this weekend.
As part of the checks, a small number of fans will be selected at random by covid-19 stewarding staff and can either show proof of being double vaccinated with the NHS COVID Pass or a negative lateral flow test, taken within 48 hours prior to kick-off.
The change comes from the Premier League ’s latest matchday protocols and is supported by Liverpool City Council, Merseyside Police and Spirit of Shankly, as Liverpool look to protect public health and supporters attending games.
Providing proof for the covid-19 spot checks is not a condition for entry, though the club has asked that all home and away fans be prepared to show the relevant information, while children under the age of 18 are exempt.
However, Liverpool do indicate that they are preparing fans should there be policy change regarding large-scale events, in which covid certification does become part of legislation.
The club also says that there will be mobile lateral flow tests available to take at Anfield , located by the LFC superstore, and encourage supporters to wear face masks and use the hand sanitation stations provided while in the stadium.
Fans wishing to voluntarily share their covid information can do so by approaching one of the spot check stewards.
