Liverpool and Wales starlet Ben Woodburn ready to drop into League One to kickstart his promising career

Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn could be prepared to drop down to League One in a bid to find first-team football next season.

The Welsh international's future has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks, but WalesOnline understands there are currently no offers on the table for the young forward, who is looking to kickstart his career again following a disappointing spell on loan at Sheffield United.

The 19-year-old looks set to be loaned out again this summer, but despite several clubs being credited with an interest, there are no firm options for him to consider at this stage.

Woodburn is desperate to get more playing time next season, having not had a single minute of league football since November.

He was on the bench for Liverpool's epic 4-0 Champions League semi-final comeback win over Barcelona, although didn't get on, but did net Wales' winner in a May friendly against Trinidad and Tobago.

The Championship remains Woodburn's most likely destination for the 2019-20 campaign, with Hull City mentioned as one of several admirers, although a transfer abroad hasn't been ruled out.

Neither has a move to the third tier, with Woodburn's next step set to be one that gives him the maximum possible chance of regular first-team football, although it's likely there will only be a handful of clubs at that level capable of attracting the Liverpool starlet.

Clubs of the stature of Sunderland and Portsmouth could potentially fit that category.

Despite a hugely promising start to his career for club and country, Woodburn has seen his career stall in the last 12 months.

Having broken onto the international scene by netting a winner in a World Cup qualifier against Austria in 2017, the youngster also attracted plenty of attention at Anfield following a couple of impressive cameos for the Reds.

He eclipsed Michael Owen's record as Liverpool's youngest scorer when netting in a League Cup tie against Leeds, aged just 17 years and 45 days.

Woodburn was then loaned out to Sheffield United last summer, hopes high that he could make an impact. However Woodburn made just 11 league appearances for the Blades, starting just one game, before rejoining Liverpool in January.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp remains a big admirer and will insist upon the right club for Woodburn to be loaned out to.
