Liverpool and Salzburg both charged by UEFA for fan offences

Liverpool and Salzburg have both been charged by UEFA for incidents in the Reds 4-3 Champions League win at Anfield on Wednesday.

Liverpool are charged with “field invasion by supporters” while their visitors from Austria have been hit with a “throwing of objects” disciplinary breach.

After losing the first game of their Champions League defence, 1-0 at Napoli, Jurgen Klopp's side eventually triumphed against Salzburg in a topsy-turvy contest.

They raced into a 3-0 lead after 36 minutes with goals from Sadio Mane, Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah but the visitors fought back to level the game at 3-3 on the hour-mark before Salah struck again to net a 69th minute winner.

Unfortunately there was also drama off the field as following what has become an increasingly worrying trend at Liverpool matches this season, a young fan climbed over the hoardings and on to the field of play after the final whistle to claim Andy Robertson's shirt before being chased and eventually caught by stewards.

Meanwhile, Salzburg's supporters are accused of throwing a missile on to the pitch in the second half of the game.

UEFA say their Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will deal with this cases at its meeting on October 17.
