Liverpool and Real Madrid 'battling to sign Brazilian wonderkid' in summer transfer

Liverpool are set to go head-to-head with Real Madrid in the battle to secure the services of Brazilian wonderkid Angelo Gabriel.

According to Sport Witness, the Reds have been keeping a close eye on the progress of the Santos winger, but sources claim Madrid are also targeting the highly-rated youngster.

Having only been promoted to the Brazilian side’s under-20s squad in July 2020, Angelo’s ability saw him propelled into the first team.

The pacy Angelo made his first start for Santos at just 15-years-old last October becoming the club’s second youngest ever debutant.

"It is an inexplicable feeling to be with the seniors so soon," he said. "It is an experience and I have to grab it with all my strength."

He signed his first professional contract after turning 16 in November, keeping him tied to the club til 2023.

The agreement also reportedly includes a €60m (£52m) release clause.

Angelo’s stock continued to rise and he was also recently selected for Santos’ Copa Libertadores clash against Venezuelan side Deportivo Lara recently.

The player has also represented Brazil at under-15s and under-16s level.

Angelo has been likened to fellow forward and compatriot Rodrygo, who Liverpool were also keen on during his time at Santos.

However, the player instead joined Madrid for £40m in the summer of 2019.

The Premier League champions will hope to avoid a similar situation with Angelo, but a number of other unnamed clubs are also said to be in the hunt for his signature.
