Liverpool and Porto slapped with fines after Champions League breaches

Liverpool have been fined €5,000 (£4,270) by UEFA due to a pitch invasion at the end of their Champions League fixture with Porto.

The Reds won the match 2-0 after goals from Thiago Alcantara and Mohamed Salah, although they had already secured their progression to the last-16 of the competition before the Anfield clash on November 24.

At full time as fans started to filter out of the stadium, two young supporters ran onto the pitch and made a beeline to Andrew Robertson, who had the match ball.

The full-back handed over the ball to one of the juveniles, prompting a chase between the youngsters - one of whom defiantly raised his hand to the Kop - and some stewards.

The children eventually managed to get back into the stand with the Champions League match ball and plenty inside Anfield saw the funny side of the incident.

However, the moment has been noted by UEFA in their recent Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body briefing, with "invasion of the field of play" cited along with the amount fined.

Porto were also slapped with a penalty from that fixture, albeit a much more substantial sum of €45,000 (£38,500). The Portuguese side are said to have contributed to a "late kick-off" on the night.

In March 2020, the Reds were fined €3,250 (£2,780) by UEFA because of supporters setting off flares inside Anfield in the last-16 second leg showdown with Atletico Madrid.
