Liverpool and Nike have created the most sustainable football kit ever

Liverpool's new Nike football kit is the brand's most planet-friendly jersey yet.

It was released as part of their 'Move To Zero' initiative and the kit is made entirely from recycled bottles, adding to the one billion plastic bottles Nike already recycles into new products each year.

Previously, Nike kits would have been made from new, machine crafted, polyester mesh.

Seana Hannah, vice president of Nike Sustainable Innovation, told GQ that the brand's focus on more sustainable materials "is now a daily conversation for the product team".

He said: "With football being the world’s biggest sport, we absolutely wanted to make sure these principles were happening on the pitch too.

"Because they’re a combination of 100 per cent recycled polyester material and precision knitting, the performance is better than before.

"The kits are more breathable, have more stretch and the moisture-wicking properties are more effective.

"I think the momentum and focus on sustainability will drive a tremendous amount of innovation over the next few years.

"We have a lot of great things coming and you’ll see us creating a sustainable future with regards to all our products.

"Right now, 75 per cent of products have some recycled material in them, but we want them all to have it."
