Liverpool and Man Utd discover Carabao Cup third round opponents

Liverpool and Manchester United were among the clubs who learned their Carabao Cup third round opponents following Tuesday night's second round matches.

The Premier League pair will both be heading to face unfamiliar opposition, with Liverpool going to Sincil Bank to take on League One outfit Lincoln City, and United facing a trip to face Championship side Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

Both matches will take place next week as the competition continues its rapid start to this season.

Lincoln secured their date with the Premier League champions with a thumping 5-0 win away at Bradford City on Tuesday having raced into a 4-0 lead at half-time.

An own goal from Tyler French and a strike from Anthony Scully put The Imps 2-0 up after just six minutes, with further strikes from Lewis Montsma and James Jones before the break.

Callum Morton then added the fifth in stoppage time.

Luton saw off their fellow Championship outfit Reading 1-0 at the Madejski Stadium thanks to a first-half strike from Jordan Clark.

United haven't faced Luton since a 1-1 draw in the old Division One back in April 1992, with Lee Sharpe scoring for Sir Alex Ferguson's men.

You have to go even farther back for Liverpool's last meeting with Lincoln, which took place back in February 1961 when Bill Shankly's Reds won 2-0 at Anfield in the old Second Division.
