Liverpool and Man United line ups confirmed and why Mohamed Salah misses out

Alisson Becker returns for Liverpool but Mohamed Salah misses out entirely as the Reds travel to Manchester United.

Salah suffered an ankle injury in the closing stages of the 2-1 win over Leicester at Anfield before the international break after a nasty challenge from Hamza Choudhury.

The issue eventually forced him off and despite extensive rehab over the last two weeks, Salah sits out the visit to Old Trafford as the Reds aim to regain their eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League.

Alisson come back in after regaining full fitness from a calf problem midway through the opening game of the season against Norwich City.

Joel Matip returns to the defence to partner Virgil van Dijk fresh from signing his new contract at Anfield.

Meanwhile Xherdan Shaqiri misses out on the bench as Divock Origi starts in place of Salah in the front three.

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Mane, Firmino, Origi.

Subs: Adrian, Gomez, Lovren, Milner, Keita, Lallana, Oxlade-Chamberlain.

And despite suggestions several United stars would miss out, plenty of their doubtful players are in the starting eleven or on the bench.

Axel Tuanzebe was due to start but was injured in the warm up. He was replaced in the team by Marcos Rojo, with Phil Jones then stepping in as a sub.

Man United: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Rojo, Young, McTominay, Fred, Pereira, James, Rashford.

Subs: Romero, Jones, Williams, Garner, Mata, Greenwood, Martial.
