Liverpool and Man City urged to join Man Utd in Jack Grealish transfer race

Liverpool and Man City have been urged to join the race for Jack Grealish's signature by BBC Sport pundit Danny Murphy.

The Aston Villa captain looks set to leave his boyhood club this summer, with Man Utd favourites to land his signature.

United have made Grealish their top transfer target, and are reportedly prepared to triple the star's £50,000-per-week salary to get him to Old Trafford.

City are also rumoured to be keeping tabs on Grealish but have not expressed any concrete interest, and Murphy feels they, and his old club Liverpool, need to seriously consider signing the player.

"If you look at the top teams, Manchester City and Liverpool, it's noticeable they like players who can perform exceptionally in more than one position," Murphy told the Mail .

"Grealish has that in his locker. He has the mix of physicality and technical skills to operate in a number of areas.

"If you're [Jurgen] Klopp for example, having that variety at your disposal is a Godsend.

"He fits Klopp's philosophy and although [Pep] Guardiola has Phil Foden he'll still be interested in other good players with David Silva leaving this summer."

Grealish has scored eight goals so far this season for relegation strugglers Villa, while also providing seven assists.

And he'll have a chance to impress Guardiola on Sunday when his side meet Man City in the Carabao Cup final.

Murphy suggests Grealish could operate behind the striker, as part of a front three, or as one of the supporting midfielders.

He went on to claim the 24-year-old was already better than Liverpool's Naby Keita and James Milner, as well as England prospects Dele Alli and James Maddison.

"All the players I've mentioned have great quality," Murphy added. "But Grealish has the edge because of his positional range and the fact his particular gifts are extremely rare."
