Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp urged to make surprise Chelsea swoop in January transfer window

Former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer has urged his old side to take a dip into the January transfer window market when it opens in two months.

Chelsea are the team that McAteer believes Liverpool should go after and the player is a certain N'Golo Kante.

The Reds have begun the new season with a strong showing in the Premier League which sees them top by six points after nine wins and one draw from ten matches.

Chelsea, meanwhile, may be eight points back from Liverpool but that's still good enough for fourth in the league.

The Blues have had to endure a transfer ban to start Frank Lampard's tenure which has forced the club to field more youngsters than usual.

World Cup winner Kante is one of the players to have not benefited this season as he has only started three league matches.

McAteer, who was speaking on behalf of FredNathan, believes the time is ripe for Liverpool to pick up the missing piece of their jigsaw as they aim to claim an elusive Premier League title this term.

"The role of the holding midfielder has developed in modern times and Liverpool boast one of the best in the business in Fabinho," McAteer explained.

"He took time to settle at Anfield but was taken out of the team and given time on the training ground and has now slotted back in seamlessly.

"He just gets it, gives it and doesn’t do anything flamboyant, though it took him a while to learn the role.

"And that’s exactly what he’s doing. His awareness of danger is fantastic.

"He and N'Golo Kante at Chelsea are the two best players in the Premier League playing that role - Kante is definitely one of the final pieces in Jurgen Klopp’s jigsaw."
