Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp get major boost ahead of UEFA Super Cup clash vs Chelsea

Liverpool and Chelsea meet in the UEFA Super Cup next month.

As a result of winning the Champions League and Europa League respectively last season, the two rivals will lock horns in Istanbul on Wednesday August, 14 in the traditional meeting between two of Europe's finest.

For the Blues it means new head coach Frank Lampard will have a tough baptism of fire.

The opening game of the Premier League season is a trip to Old Trafford against Manchester United, while the clash with the Reds comes three days later.

And the Merseyside giants have been handed a massive boost ahead of that game.

Egypt's shock defeat at the hands of South Africa at the weekend means their Africa Cup of Nations tournament is over, meaning Mohamed Salah could be available to face the Blues.

There had been concern the ex-Chelsea winger would be a doubt due to the host nation being tipped to reach the latter stages of the tournament - possibly reaching the final.

That is set to take place on July 19 and with players getting three weeks off ahead of the new season, Salah might not have been risked by Jurgen Klopp in Turkey.

But with Egypt being knocked out, there's every chance Salah - who scored in a 2-0 win over the west London outfit last season - will be raring to go in time for the Super Cup.

However, it's not all good news for the Champions League holders as they could potentially be without Naby Keita for next month's showdown.

The midfielder was named in Guinea's squad for the Africa Cup of Nations despite initial fears that he would miss the tournament, but returned to Liverpool for treatment on a thigh problem picked up in his country's defeat to Nigeria.

Mamadou Camara, press officer for Guinea, said: “He picked this injury up in the semi-finals of the European Champions League and he has been training and playing but never at 100%, and we have to think about after the Nations Cup."

Keita didn't feature in the round of 16 loss against Algeria on Sunday.

Furthermore, The Mirror  reported that Keita faces a "race against time" to be ready for the new season as if it is a fresh adductor issue he will face several weeks on the sidelines.
