Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp earn Premier League victory with Newcastle United fixture change

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has seen his wishes granted with his team's Premier League game at Newcastle United next month being rearranged.

The visit to St James' Park was scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 5 until the Reds progressed to the Champions League semi-final.

Now the game, which takes place between the two legs against Barcelona, has been moved to Saturday, May 4 with a 7.45pm kick-off. The game will still be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah deserves much better than another awards snub

Klopp had spoken on Friday of wanting the match to be played on the Saturday night to give his players the greatest amount of recovery time after their visit to Camp Nou the previous Wednesday night.

“I think the Premier League should support teams," he said on Friday. "We now have four English teams in the semi-finals in Europe and that is a big number. Can they do it? I don't know.

“It is a busy schedule over the year. For us, it's okay. It's clear that we will play Newcastle on the Saturday, we're just not 100% sure when.

"It would be important if we could play Newcastle in the late game on the Saturday and not the 12.30pm kick-off. That would be strange."

Manchester City's home game against Leicester City that weekend has also been moved, and will now take place on the Monday at 8pm.

City moved a point clear at the top of the table with a tense 1-0 home win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. Liverpool are at relegation-threatened Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon.
