Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp consider pre-season options as summer plan becomes clearer

Liverpool are considering their options as they begin to finalise their pre-season preparations.

The Premier League champions are currently on a two-week period of rest after they ended the campaign with a 3-1 win at Newcastle United on Sunday.

The Reds squad will then have a week working to individual fitness programmes before returning to Melwood on August 15 to start building towards the new season, which will begin on Saturday, August 29 with the Community Shield at Wembley against either Chelsea or Arsenal.

Jurgen Klopp is keen to take players on a week-long training camp ahead of the traditional curtain-raiser.

While the Reds boss would prefer a return to Evian in France for a third successive season, the ECHO understands four venues are under consideration - two in the United Kingdom and a second overseas - with the club being led by Government guidance in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Liverpool will lose many of their leading players to the international break scheduled between the Community Shield and the start of the Premier League campaign on the weekend of September 12.

The Reds are likely to play a limited number of friendly matches, but there won't be an overseas tour or any glamour warm-up matches due to the quick turnaround between seasons and the impact of travel restrictions.
