Liverpool and Everton waiting on Premier League as Italian government changes Serie A decision

Serie A clubs could return to training grounds tomorrow after the Italian government brought forward plans for sports teams to resume work.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte had originally set out plans for lockdown restrictions to ease which would see individual athletes returning to training on Monday with sports teams following on May 18.

However, that inconsistency is believed to have been challenged and sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora called for a review of the decision.

Both Corriere dello Sport and Gazzetta dello Sport quote a communique signed by the interior minister Matteo Piantedosi, according to The Guardian, which allows for high-performance centres to open their doors provided social distancing measures are observed.

“Athletes and non-athletes of non-individual disciplines, like every citizen, are allowed to participate in individual sports in public or private areas, respecting the interpersonal safety distance of at least two metres,” the note reportedly said.

Liverpool and Everton will now wait to see what the Premier League's next move is on the advice of authorities.
