Liverpool and Chelsea's transfer stance on Newcastle United's Allan Saint-Maximin

Premier League rivals Liverpool and Chelsea are tracking Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin according to the latest reports in Italy.

The Frenchman has been a shining star in an otherwise dull campaign for the Magpies, who remain winless after six Premier League matches.

Despite United's poor form under Steve Bruce, Saint-Maximin has been impressive and enjoyed his football under the Geordie boss.

Saint-Maximin is tied down until 2026 with the club after penning a six-year deal last October, giving the Magpies plenty of leverage in the transfer market.

That could be in handy with Thomas Tuchel and Jurgen Klopp reportedly interested in prising him from St James' Park, according to Italian publication CalcioMercato .

Everton are also credited with an interest in the 23-year-old, though they're currently hamstrung by Financial Fair Play which is restricting their transfer business.

Despite widespread criticism of his tenure since arriving at Newcastle, Bruce has built a strong relationship with Saint-Maximin that has allowed him to flourish.

"Well, when he walked through the door, I said he was going to get all of you off your seat, that he would be a firm favourite," Bruce told The Chronicle.

"He's playing as well as anybody can in the Premier League at the moment and when he's playing like this, then he's a joy to watch.

"I've always had a good relationship with him. He's a great lad and the one thing about him that I enjoy is he enjoys football more than most. It's what he lives for. If you ask him for a result in any game in Spain or Italy, he will know. He will know the team and the rest of it.

"Let's hope he stays because he's been a joy to watch this year and he's getting better, which is the most important thing."
