Liverpool and Arsenal 'chasing' Odsonne Edouard and other transfer rumours rated

As the business end of the season draws closer, attention will gradually start focusing on how Liverpool will begin to move forward after a disappointing Premier League title defence.

There will be inevitable calls for Jurgen Klopp to dip into the transfer market to strengthen his squad, and over the next few weeks and months there will be a host of names that are supposedly on their shortlist.

Here, we take a look at some of the latest rumours and assess whether or not they are likely to happen or not.

Who?

Kostas Tsimikas, Liverpool defender.

Where?

Napoli are interested in signing the Reds left-back this summer, as claimed by Italian news outlet Corrierre dello Sport.

The report goes on to state that the Serie A club are “confident” of landing the Greek international due to his limited first-team opportunities at Anfield this season.

Tsimikas was signed by Liverpool last summer from Olympiacos as cover for Andy Robertson, but has not been handed much of an opportunity since then.

He's only played five minutes of Premier League football - in the 4-1 defeat to Manchester City back in February.

What?

When Tsimikas was signed last summer, many saw it as a rather shrewd piece of business by the club.

Dejan Lovren departed for Zenit St Petersburg, and with the money the club essentially bought a back-up left-back to help Robertson manage his fitness.

For reasons which will only be known to Klopp and his backroom staff, Tsimikas hasn’t been handed as many chances to play as many would have expected.

Whether that means the club will consider selling him is another matter, he’s still young and has the potential to improve.

Who?

Ezequiel Garay, former Valencia defender.

Where?
According to reports in Spain, Liverpool are looking at the possibility of signing Garay as a free agent this summer.

The experienced defender is currently a free agent after leaving Valencia at the end of last season, and El Gol Digital claim the 34-year-old is in ‘advanced negotiations’ with Liverpool.

What?

This is not the first time that Garay has been linked with Liverpool, and during the January window you can see why.

The club needed defensive reinforcements then, but in the summer you would think it might be a completely different story.

Whether Klopp feels the need to sign a player over 30 who wouldn’t have played for over a year remains to be seen, but it’s not the most likely of possibilities, to say the least.

It is unlikely that Garay will be of serious interest to Klopp this summer.

Who?

Odsonne Edouard, Celtic striker.

Where?

It has been claimed that Liverpool are apparently interested in signing Edouard from the Scottish Premiership club this summer.

According to Ian McGarry, the Reds are one of two clubs tracking the striker, along with fellow Premier League club Arsenal.

“Liverpool and Arsenal are two teams who are chasing Odsonne Edouard of Celtic,” said McGarry, on The Transfer Window podcast.

What?

Edouard has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs in the past, but this is the first time that we’ve really seen Liverpool credited with an interest.

Liverpool are likely to be in the market for a forward this summer, and whether Edouard fits the profile of what the club are after remains to be seen.

He is clearly a talented player and looks set to have a thriving career, but we’ll have to wait and see whether Liverpool is part of that or not.
