Liverpool among six teams 'sounding out Neymar' ahead of January transfer window

Liverpool are amongst six teams reportedly keeping tabs on Neymar and regularly sounding out his agent over the prospect of a transfer move.

According to a report from Le Parisien , top clubs including the Reds are actively monitoring Neymar and team-mate Kylian Mbappe and keeping in touch with their entourages.

Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester City are also named, along with Real Madrid , Barcelona and Juventus .

Both Neymar and Mbappe have fuelled transfer rumours in recent months and been linked with Paris Saint-Germain exits.

Moves to La Liga with either Real Madrid or Barcelona have appeared most likely, but Premier League clubs are now preparing to swoop if the situation advances.

Mbappe's links to Liverpool are nothing new, but Jurgen Klopp recently ruled out the chances of signing the French wonderkid.

"OK, from a sporting point of view, there are not a lot of reasons to not sign Mbappe, what a player he is,” Klopp said.

“But it is about the money of course. No chance. Absolutely no chance, sorry for killing that story.

"I don't think there is a club in the world that can buy Kylian Mbappe from PSG. And we are involved in that too. We cannot do it, it is as easy as that.

"We have nothing (more) to say about it to be honest, but [buying] this calibre of player is difficult."

But Neymar's ongoing desire to leave the French capital could see him emerge as an alternative target, with a possibility of a chance to head to the Premier League.

They would face competition from nearby should they opt to try and sign either player, with title rivals Manchester City ready to splash the cash again after their recent slump.

Chelsea are also a team on the rise and with money to burn after their transfer ban was lifted in time for the January window.
