Liverpool 'among Premier League clubs' monitoring Anderlecht youngster Jeremy Doku

Liverpool are reported to be among several Premier League clubs that are interested in Anderlecht’s teenage prodigy Jeremy Doku.

Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad claims he plans to continue with the Jupiler Pro League side until the end of next season and that the Reds are the current frontrunners to sign him in the summer of 2021.

Doku has shone, scoring three goals and providing four assists in the league this campaign.

It’s believed that the champions-elect in England have been following his progress for a while.

According to his parents, Jurgen Klopp tried to get him to come to Anfield after suggesting he could become Sadio Mane’s successor.

However, the 17-year-old committed his future to Anderlecht in February, signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2022.

His current valuation is around £5million according to Transfermarkt.

But the Belgian team are aiming to get as much as £17million from his future sale.

Het Nieuwsblad state that Liverpool are still monitoring him as they bid to boost their attacking options in the future.

The Merseyside club are on the brink of lifting a first league title since 1990, having won 27 of their 29 games.

They’ve built a mammoth 25-point lead over defending champions Manchester City and need just two more victories to lift a maiden Premier League crown.

Their vaunted front three of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino have been crucial to much of their success.

However, Mane, Salah and Naby Keita are all set to miss a prolonged period of next season due to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

And Klopp will therefore be keen to bring in reinforcements for his squad as they target yet more silverware next term.

Their immediate priority though will be overturning a 1-0 deficit when they face Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their last-16 Champions League tie at Anfield on Wednesday.
