Liverpool allowing another centre-back to depart as Jurgen Klopp faces transfer poser

Liverpool are ready to allow Nat Phillips to depart as Jurgen Klopp continues his squad reshaping.

Phillips, who spent last season on loan at German side Stuttgart, is attracting the interest of a number of clubs including Championship side Bristol City.

While Liverpool are open to another temporary switch for the 23-year-old centre-back, it's understood a permanent move is the more likely option.

Phillips impressed during his campaign at Stuttgart, making 22 appearances and helping them gain promotion to the Bundesliga.

He was briefly recalled during Germany's winter break to make his solitary senior appearance for Liverpool in the 1-0 FA Cup third round win over Everton in January.

The defender was part of the recent pre-season training camp in Austria and featured in the friendlies against Stuttgart and Red Bull Salzburg.

However, Phillips, signed from Bolton Wanderers in 2016, was missing from the bench for the Community Shield against Arsenal at Wembley on Saturday with teenager Billy Koumetio instead preferred.

With Dejan Lovren having already left this summer for Zenit St Petersburg in a £10.9million deal, Klopp is short of senior centre-back options with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip the only three available.

It leaves Liverpool pondering whether to strengthen the heart of their defence before the transfer window shuts on October 5.
