Liverpool have agreed a deal worth up to £7million with Sporting CP for the sale of teenage forward Rafael Camacho.
The Reds will receive an initial £5m fee for the Portuguese, with further add-ons and a 20% sell-on clause also part of the agreement.
Camacho had also attracted interest from Schalke, AC Milan and Wolves this summer but viewed a return to his former club as the most likely route to regular football.
As reported by Standard Sport, Camacho’s hometown club initially expressed an interest in acquiring his services back in January.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have ensured they receive a hefty fee for a player who had rejected offers to extend his contract and would have brought in just a £270k compensation package upon its expiry next year.
The 19-year-old heads back to his homeland following a six-year stint in England that began with a move to Manchester City in 2013.
He moved to Merseyside after a successful trial in 2016, and went on to make his first-team debut in the FA Cup against Wolves last season.
However, his opportunities proved to be limited in the second half of the campaign, with a January appearance against Crystal Palace proving to be his last.
It had been suggested in some quarters that Camacho’s move from Anfield to Sporting could form part of a deal to bring Bruno Fernandes the other way this summer, but the Reds have no interest in signing the Portugal midfielder.
