Liverpool agent fees revealed as £12.9m gap to Man City emerges

Liverpool paid over £22m in agents' fees between February 2021 and the end of January this year.

According to figures released by the Football Association on Thursday, the Reds spent a total of £22,136,224 on intermediaries across the last two transfer windows.

Only Chelsea (£28.2m), Manchester United (£29m) and Manchester City (£35m) paid more during that period as Premier League clubs handed over a total of £272.6m to representatives between February 2, 2021 and January 31 of this year.

During that time, Liverpool only signed two first-team players with Luis Diaz arriving from Porto in January for a fee that could reach £50m after Ibrahima Konate's £36m switch from RB Leipzig last summer.

Liverpool's figures are likely to be inflated by the slew of first-team contracts that were signed across last summer as key men like Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker, Fabinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson penned new deals.

The club's summer remit was to ensure their star men were rewarded for their performances in recent years with new contracts as Jurgen Klopp looked to keep the nucleus of a squad that won the Champions League and Premier League in successive years together for the long haul.

Adrian, Harvey Elliott, Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams also signed new deals during that same period as Liverpool tied down a host of their players to fresh terms.

The fee remains around the same as it was 12 months ago but close to £10m less than the previous year's figure where the Reds paid out over £30m between February 2019 and January 2020.
