Liverpool ace Virgil van Dijk explains why he is happy for Reds star who left club

Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk has paid tribute to ex-Reds' star Rafa Camacho following his transfer to Sporting.

Camacho left Liverpool to return to the Portugal in a £5million deal last month.

The Reds negotiated a 20 per cent sell-on clause as well as add-ons which could see the fee rise to £7m.

The 19-year-old was entering the final year of his contract at Anfield and was unwilling to sign fresh terms after viewing his first-team chances as remote.

Van Dijk revealed his happiness for the teenager, speaking to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, as cited by InsideFutbol, the Dutchman said: "He is still young, has a lot to learn.

"He has been in Sporting's youth set-up and probably feels like returning home. I am happy for him and I hope he is happy.

"He has quality and he knows what he has to do, because we all know that there are many players who have quality, but then they lack the rest."

Camacho was not included in the Sporting squad which drew 2-2 with Jurgen Klopp's side at Yankee Stadium on Thursday.

Van Dijk's admission follows Brazil No.1 Alisson who also praised the youngster last month.

Speaking to Portuguese newspaper Record, the shot-stopper told: "He is a young man with incredible potential and personality.

"He was already showing this at Liverpool by training on an equal basis with the more experienced players."
