Liverpool ace Andy Robertson sends heartfelt message to schoolboy battling cancer

Liverpool and Scotland ace Andy Robertson has sent a heartfelt message to an Irvine schoolboy battling cancer.

The Reds defender recorded the special video yesterday as young Ace Ward prepares to undergo the fourth and final stage of his treatment.

The six-year-old from Irvine was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in January.

His mum Vicky revealed Ace was in remission in June but he still faces another gruelling block of chemotherapy.

The John O'Byrne Foundation, who help bring a little happiness for children who are long term hospital patients, made English Premier League winner Robertson aware of Ace's plight with a little help from fellow footballers Kris Boyd and Robert Snodgrass.

And he was only too happy to help.

Robertson said in the video: "Hi Acey, hope you're well pal. It's Andy Robertson here.

"I've heard you are a big Celtic and Liverpool fan which is amazing.

"But I heard you've not been through the best of times just now and your just going on to your last block of chemotherapy so I wish you all the best with that, and then I wish you a lifetime of happiness and healthiness and hopefully I'll see you soon.

"You'll never walk alone pal."

Stunned mum Vicky said all Ace's dreams had come true after she shared the footage on social media.

She added: "There's was tears all round we when saw the video.

"We're all die-hard football fans. Ace was due to go to Liverpool in April but couldn't because of the coronavirus outbreak.

"We do it every year as a family and he was devastated that he couldn't go."

Vikki is hoping Ace will be well enough to return to school in October.
