Liverpool £65m talent released as Premier League clubs reveal retained lists

Former Liverpool stars Andy Carroll, Mamadou Sakho and Nathaniel Clyne are among the free agents announced as Premier League clubs reveal their retained lists.

Premier League rules require all clubs to submit their retained and released lists to the league by June 23, although some players, such as Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum, could technically still sign new contracts so aren't yet included in the Reds' list of released players.

Wijnaldum is expected to announce his official departure from Liverpool soon, with Barcelona and Paris-Saint Germain among the contenders for his signature.

The Reds announced the departure of academy players Liam Coyle, Joe Hardy, Abdi Sharif and Jack Walls upon the expiry of their contracts this summer, with new contracts offered to both Yasser Larouci, who featured twice in 2019/20, and Remi Savage.

Adrian is another Liverpool player out of contract this summer, but could yet stay with the Reds.

Elsewhere, Newcastle announced the release of Carroll, while Crystal Palace let go of 22 players - the most of any Premier League club - including former Reds defenders Sakho and Clyne.

Now 32, Carroll had rejoined Newcastle in 2019 after seven seasons with West Ham, but scored just one goal in 43 appearances across two seasons.

His then club record £35m transfer to Liverpool on transfer deadline day in January 2011 was one of the most dramatic in the club's history.

Meanwhile, Sakho leaves Palace four years after completing a £24m move from Liverpool.

The Frenchman left Anfield after a season-long loan with the Eagles following a falling out with boss Jurgen Klopp. He made just six appearances this season due to fitness and form.

Clyne played just 13 times for Palace after joining on a free transfer from the Reds last summer. They are just two of 22 players released by the Eagles, although with a new manager set to arrive, it's possible several could be offered new deals.

Former Liverpool players Lee Peltier and Andy Lonergan were also released by relegated West Brom.
