Liverpool 6-0 Blackburn details as Takumi Minamino strikes in Anfield thrashing

Liverpool stepped up their preparations for the restart of the Premier League season with a thumping 6-0 win over Blackburn in a friendly at Anfield.

Sadio Mane, Naby Keita, Takumi Minamino and Joel Matip were all on target for Jurgen Klopp's side, with youngsters Ki-Jana Hoever and Leighton Clarkson also getting on the score sheet.

The Reds make the short hop across Stanley Park to face Merseyside rivals Everton on Sunday week - a game which could see them win the title should Manchester City lose to Arsenal on Wednesday.

And Klopp would have been happy with what he saw against Championship Blackburn with his side picking up where they left off before the forced hiatus to the campaign due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Liverpool were in front after just 10 minutes when Mane reacted quickest after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's drive was saved by Rovers keeper Christian Walton.

Minamino went close to doubling the advantage shortly afterwards and was on hand to square for Keita to score the second after involvement in the build-up from Virgil van Dijk, James Milner and Mane.

Mane turned provider for the Japanese international to make it three before the break; Minamino sweeping in from the Senegalese's low delivery.

Klopp made seven changes at the break and one of those substitutes, Neco Williams, crashed against the post early in the second half.

Two goals in two minutes made it 5-0 as first Matip converted from Firmino's glance across goal then Hoever lashed a left-footed drive into the to pcorner.

Clarkson finished the rout in the dying minutes, finishing assuredly from inside the box, to round-off a big win for Liverpool.
