Liverpool 5-0 Huddersfield: 5 talking points as Jurgen Klopp's men cruise to victory

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane grabbed two goals each as Liverpool ran riot against relegated Huddersfield on Friday night to pile the title pressure back on Manchester City .

The Kop duo, vying for the Golden Boot Award, are waging their own battle for personal glory – and were both in deadly form as Liverpool stormed back to the top of the table.

Naby Keita kicked off the goal blitz, opening the scoring with Liverpool's fastest ever Premier league goal after just 15 seconds.

Mane made it 2-0 after 22 minutes with a clinical header before Salah scored on the stroke of half-time against hapless Huddersfield.

Liverpool started the game eight goals adrift of Pep Guardiola's men but they cut that down to just three as Mane and Salah added further goals to give Jurgen Klopp's stars the advantage ahead of City's trip to Burnley on Sunday.

Here are 5 talking points from Anfield...

Mohamed Salah becomes first Premier League player to reach 20 goals this season

1. Super Mane

In any other season Sadio Mane might have been a Footballer of the Year winner.

He'll miss out to team-mate Virgil van Dijk in the PFA awards on Sunday and, more than likely, to Raheem Sterling in the Football Writer's Awards to be announced next week.

But his contribution to Liverpool's amazing season can't be underestimated.

He drew level with Salah in the race for the Golden Boot with his 19 and 20 league goals of the season as Liverpool ran riot.

His superb header from Andrew Robertson's 23rd minute cross was followed by another fine header from Jordan Henderson's ball to make it 11 goals in his last nine league games at Anfield.

And that surely makes him a snip at £34million.

2. Red-hot Mo

Salah's campaign might not be as spectacular as last season – but he's joined Liverpool legends Robbie Fowler and Luis Suarez in the Premier League record books.

The red-hot Egyptian struck his 20th goal of the season with a tasty lob over Jonas Lossl to put Liverpool 3-0 ahead against Huddersfield.

And Salah made it 21 to lead the race for top scorer with a close range finish from Robertson’s cross into the box.

Not quite as good as his 32 goal haul last season – but no-one at Anfield is complaining.

3. Goal machine Keita

Keita's been a slow burn – but the £52.75million midfielder has come good when Liverpool have really needed him in this title run-in.

And he kick-started the party by producing Liverpool's fastest ever Premier League goal in the 15th second of this contest to put Klopp's on track for their 16 League win of the season at Anfield.

Keita grabbed a vital goal at Southampton recently to set Klopp's men up for victory and he was out of the blocks rapidly against relegated Huddersfield.

He quickly closing down Jon Gorenc Stankovic before taking a pass from Salah to score his third goal in his last five games.

4. Robertson proves his worth

Andy Robertson has been a warhorse all season helping Liverpool maintain a mean defensive record and blazing a trail down the left flank in attack.

He might miss out on the individual prizes but his worth to this Liverpool team was evident again as he set up Liverpool's second goal for Mane with a pin-point cross into the box.

And he teed up Salah's late effort too, making it 11 league assists from left back just two ahead of fellow full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold who has nine.

5. The numbers game

Whatever happens from here on, no one can deny Liverpool haven't given it their absolute maximum this season.

And the numbers prove it. Victory over the relegated Terriers swept them through the 90 points barrier – more than enough to win the title in most past seasons.

Their goals against hapless Huddersfield took their haul for the season to 104 goals - evidence of their clinical finishing and swashbuckling attacking brilliance.

And victory made it 301 Premier League goals in three and a half seasons under Jurgen Klopp.
