Liverpool fell to a 3-2 pre-season defeat against Jurgen Klopp's former club Borussia Dortmund at Notre Dame.
Paco Alcacer opened the scoring for Dortmund after just three minutes, punishing Liverpool for their inability to clear a loose ball in the penalty area.
Harry Wilson equalised with a coolly-taken finish 34 minutes in to send the sides into the interval level, but five second-half minutes of chaos cost Liverpool.
Simon Mignolet was called into action with a fine stop to deny Marius Wolf seven minutes after the break, but Dortmund - who made a raft of half-time changes - scored from the next passage of play: Liverpool's offside trap failed as Thorgan Hazard found space on the right flank to drill a low ball across goal, with Thomas Delaney on hand to tap home into an empty net.
Worse was to come for Klopp's defence as Yasser Larouci was beaten all too easily by Wolf, who got to the byline and cut back for Jacob Bruun Larsen to fire home a low effort into Mignolet's bottom right-hand corner to put BVB 3-1 up with 32 minutes to play.
Klopp looked frustrated on the touchline, and immediately substituted his whole side barring Mignolet - clearly a pre-planned move, but it came at the right time for the Reds.
Liverpool rallied as sub Ben Woodburn won a penalty which Rhian Brewster converted, but it was too little, too late as Klopp watched his former club run out winners in Notre Dame.
While any defeat is clearly unwanted, there are positives for Klopp to take: Mignolet was in impressive form in the absence of Alisson Mignolet, while Brewster was once again on the scoresheet as he continues to stake a claim for first-team action next season.
