Liverpool £12m talent says he fell out of love with football during controversial Bristol City loan but is now starring at Rangers

Ryan Kent admits he fell out of love with football during his controversial loan spell at Bristol City last season.

The winger arrived at the Robins from Liverpool in January but failed to make an impact at Ashton Gate, making just 10 appearances.

He did not play enough to satisfy his parent club and the Robins were subsequently fined by Anfield bosses over his lack of football.

Yet this season has seen Kent in sensational form for Rangers under Steven Gerrard, scoring six goals in 23 appearances, including a fine strike in last weekend's Old Firm Derby against Celtic.

The Gers want to keep him permanently, but Liverpool have slapped a £12m price tag on his head, meaning his future could lie elsewhere in the summer.

Kent says that this season has helped him rediscover his love of the game after disappointing loan spells at both the Robins and German side Freiburg.

Kent told Rangers TV:  “I've thoroughly enjoyed the journey I've been on, there's been a lot of enjoyable times.

“I've re-found my love for the game, I probably missed that last year not playing as much. With the fans and everybody associated with Rangers Football Club, I've been really welcomed here and I've thoroughly enjoyed it.

“I feel like I really fit into this team. I buy into the philosophies and the style of play Steven Gerrard is putting into the team.

“Sometimes noise outside of the pitch has affected the way I've played. Playing under Steven gives me more confidence to perform the way I want to perform.

“He gives me the belief that I can go and achieve things out on the pitch and be fearless.”
