KOTTAYAM: The Government Medical College hospital (MCH) here will have a facility for liver transplant surgery in two months, said health minister Veena George.
Speaking after inaugurating various developmental projects worth over Rs 8.89 crore at the MCH on Tuesday, the minister said that preparations are being done for starting liver transplant surgery.She also said that the MCH is on a rise making fast strides with its modern facilities and arrangements for the treatment of the common people. Several projects have been completed in the last five years to expand the basic facilities of the MCH. This enabled the MCH to become the top hospital in the country to provide the highest number of free treatment and was announced as the winner of ‘Topperforming public hospital’ in the country, she added. She also said that a society has been formed to prevent fake propaganda making people withdraw from the process of organ donation.
Speaking on the occasion, cooperation minister V N Vasavan said that efforts are being made to begin a haematology department at the MCH. He also said that a fund of Rs 12 lakh has been provided for this from the MLA fund for buying equipment for the liver transplant surgery department.
