Liveline listeners horrified as woman tells Joe Duffy she showers once every two weeks to help with climate crisis

An Irish woman admitted to RTE Liveline that she only showers once every two weeks - telling host Joe Duffy it was to do her part to help fight against the climate emergency.

Mary Farrell opened Wednesday's show with the claim that she "was shining" after taking the breaks from showering.

On days where she opts not to shower, she uses a hand basin to wash herself in once a day in order to avoid being completely disgusting.

She told Joe: "I don't shower every day. I shower every fortnight because it washes the oils out of your skin. I wash myself in the basin in the bathroom daily, I'm doing that for years.

"I consider myself very clean, I'm absolutely shining. It keeps me young-looking."

A second caller, Betty, had a song about rainbows with a reference to the Bible.

"Some of us didn't have a shower when growing up, I don't take baths. It is time for us all to change what we are doing to save the planet. Wear warmer jumpers, use safe flannels instead of towels."

A caller from Denmark was asked by Joe if he showered everyday as things took a typically Livelineish turn.

But people on social media could not get over Mary's admission.

One user tweeted: "Stop burning coal and turf BUT PLEASE SHOWER good jaysus, we have to smell you."

A second added: "She showers once a fortnight, whether she needs it or not."

While a third said: "Joe's bringing back the dirty protest to stop climate change."
