Tharwa has been evacuated because of a out-of-control bushfire burning in the Namadgi National Park.
Authorities are also doorknocking the southern suburbs in Tuggeranong to warn them of the risk of spot fires, but are not evacuating people at this stage. They are warning of spot fires within 1km of Banks.
The Orroral Valley fire, which started on Monday, was upgraded from a watch and act level to emergency warning about 1.20pm on Tuesday, and as of 10pm was 8106 hectares. It was downgraded to watch and act at 11.15pm.
Erratic fire behaviour was expected to continue until at least 9pm Tuesday.
