As it happened: One week into baseline restrictions, Canberra tries to return to normal

We're now a week back into baseline level COVID restrictions, and the city is getting back to normal.

There were 17 new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours until 8pm on Thursday, after a rise in numbers the day prior.

The ACT Health Minister said a fluctuation in cases numbers was to be expected with restrictions being considerably eased.

"It's too early to say whether this increase is the start of a trend or if it will come back down," Rachael Stephen-Smith said.

The government has also revealed a pilot for introducing COVID-19 rapid antigen testing in Canberra schools will not go ahead this year with health authorities warning there's "not enough time" to get the complex trial up and running.
