
This is one of the wildest weekends of the year for NFL personnel departments, and the Bears’ situation is further complicated by the fact that they have a short turnaround between the end of the preseason and the season opener Thursday against the Packers.
The first step is cutting the roster from 90 players to 53 by Saturday at 3 p.m. Then the Bears can make waiver claims, and anyone they pick up will require them to clear an additional roster spot by Sunday. Once that settles, they’ll assemble a 10-man practice squad.
Here’s a look at the confirmed cuts so far:
Friday, 7:05 p.m.
Wide receiver Tanner Gentry is being cut, sources confirmed. He had three catches for 35 yards in 2017 and spent last year on the Bears’ practice squad.
Friday, 6:45 p.m.
Outside linebacker Matt Betts, an undrafted rookie from Canada, was cut, a source said.
Friday, 6:30 p.m.
Doyin Jibowu, an undrafted rookie cornerback out of Fort Hays State, was cut, a source said.
Friday, 6:05 p.m.
The Bears are cutting offensive tackle Joe Lowery, a rookie from Ohio, a source said.
Friday, 6 p.m.
Marquez Tucker, a rookie offensive lineman from Utah State, has been cut, sources said.
