Two fires have merged and threatened homes and buildings in Canberra's east and Queanbeyan for much of Thursday afternoon.
The Beard fire was downgraded from emergency warning to watch and act about 5pm.
People in Beard, Oaks Estate and West Queanbeyan including Crestwood had been warned to seek shelter immediately, as the fire is travelling in an easterly direction. They are now, along with people in Pialligo and Brindabella Business Park, being advised to follow warnings.
