As it happened: Govt gives epidemiological update on ACT outbreak

Canberrans got a stark reminder of the pandemic's presence in the territory yesterday, with two deaths from COVID-19 reported.

As the territory reopens and travel restrictions ease, authorities have predicted cases will rise again.

The ACT hosted its biggest event in months with 1000 people allowed to attend a Melbourne Cup day event at Thoroughbred Park.

It comes as a number of schools and other public locations have emerged as new COVID exposure sites in recent days.

The ACT reported eight new cases in the 24 hours to 8pm Monday.

There are seven people hospitalised with the virus, four of whom are in intensive care and requiring ventilation.
