Police called to stabbing on City Road, Cardiff

A male has been taken to hospital and enquiries are ongoing as emergency services rushed to reports of a stabbing in Cardiff.

South Wales Police and the ambulance service responded to an incident on City Road, in the Roath area of Cardiff just before 2pm on Wednesday June 23.

Eyewitness reports also suggest armed police responded to the incident as did a police helicopter. South Wales Ambulance Service sent three vehicles to the incident.

A South Wales Police spokesman said the the injured person's injuries are thought not to be life threatening and enquiries are continuing.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called on Wednesday 23 June at approximately 14.00 to reports of a person needing urgent medical attention on City Road, Cardiff. We responded with two rapid response vehicles and one emergency ambulance. One patient was transported to University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.”

South Wales Police confirmed that a male had been taken to hospital as a result of the incident. Their age has not been given by the force.

Frederick Mabbs 72, lives opposite where the incident took place. He said: "I was doing the front and saw a group of about five to seven youths. Two of them were fighting and then they went around the corner (onto City Road) and I could still hear them shouting.

"This was around 2.15/ 2.30pm. I heard police cars come shortly afterwards and also saw the ambulance and then the helicopter came over. I told my wife it might have been a stabbing but I wasn't sure. This used to be a quiet area."

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "Police were called to City Road, Roath, Cardiff at 2pm today to reports of a stabbing.

"A male has suffered non-life-threatening stab wounds and is receiving treatment at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
Extensive enquiries are being carried out to establish the circumstances and identify those responsible. The investigation continues.
