Live updates as firefighters tackle lorry fire on A1 near Newark

Firefighters have been dealing with a lorry fire on the A1 near Newark.

The road had been closed northbound between the A46 and A6325.

Highways England tweeted at 6.09pm: "The A1 is currently blocked northbound between Newark A46 & North Muskham B6325 whilst @nottspolice & @nottsfire deal with a lorry fire there are long delays please avoid the area if possible."

In an update, Highways England tweeted to say one lane had reopened, and there were "long delays".

Highways England has issued diversion advice:

- Exit the A1 at Winthorpe and follow the hollow triangle symbol.

- Take the A46 southbound to Newark.

- Then take the A616 northbound.

- At South Muskham, take the B6325 to rejoin the A1 at North Muskham.

A Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said two engines from Newark and Retford were called at 4.58pm to reports of a lorry fire on the A1 northbound at North Muskham.

She said four breathing apparatus and two hose reels were used.

Firefighters have left the scene and the incident has been handed over to the police.

Highways England tweeted at 7.14pm to say all the lanes were open.
