Live stream gigs and DJ sets this weekend: From Katherine Jenkins' VE Day concert to Homoelectric's Stay Homo

The nation is gearing up for another bank holiday weekend and, even if most of us have to spend it indoors, there's still plenty to look forward to.

The world of live-streamed gigs continues to be a fantastic source of entertainment, and this weekend it's no different.

We've got one-off concerts to mark special anniversaries, DJ marathons, charity festivals and plenty else besides.

Here's where to tune in.

Katherine Jenkins

The Welsh mezzo-soprano is marking the 75th anniversary of VE Day with a special performance performed live in an empty Royal Albert Hall. She’ll sing through a number of wartime favourites, including a virtual duet with Dame Vera Lynn for We’ll Meet Again.

Homoelectric’s Stay Homo

Clubbing favourite Homoelectric is throwing a wild 12-hour rave this weekend, with some big names on the line-up — expect sets from The Black Madonna, Roisin Murphy, Horse Meat Disco and more.

This new three-day virtual festival has been launched in aid of NHS Charities Together, and will feature live performances from the likes of Circa Waves, Gengahr, Grouplove and L Devine.

The Hacienda House Party Part II

Danny Tenaglia, Kevin Saunderson, Louie Vega and other DJs will resurrect the spirit of the famous Manchester club for this live-stream, which is followed by a special performance by Hacienda Classical with the Manchester Camerata orchestra.

Set For Love

This stream is gunning to become “the world’s largest DJ event”, with a 72-hour marathon with DJs from all over the world taking part. Anyone can get involved, from bedroom DJs to global stars — check the website for more details. It’s all in aid of the Last Night A DJ Saved My Life charity, which is helping those in developing countries through the coronavirus crisis.

Defected Virtual Festival

Dance music label defected is back for another of its popular live streams, this time welcoming sets from Danny Howard, Duke Dumont, Sonny Fodera and more.

Minecraft has emerged as a bit of a hub for virtual music festivals during the lockdown, and this is the latest to take place inside the game. Pussy Riot, Rina Sawayama and Alice Glass are among the artists to head down to digital venue Elsewither.

Unity 2020

This stream, organised by BBC presenter Abbie McCarthy and raising funds for Women’s Aid, will include sets from Arlo Parks, Yungblud, Nadine Shah, Georgia, Ms Banks and many more.

Online Carnival

Notting Hill carnival is no longer happening this year, but people can get a little taste of what might have been this weekend. Carnival’s biggest soundsystem Rampage is hosting a virtual festival this weekend, alongside mas band Socaholic, with three hours of dancehall, soca and good vibes from 6pm on Saturday.

The 1975 listening party

Following on from their first Twitter listening party the other week, where the band took fans through their debut self-titled album, the 1975 are repeating the trick with I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It.
