Live stream gigs and DJ sets this weekend: From Biffy Clyro to Pink Floyd

If you haven't caught a live-streamed gig yet during the lockdown, then this weekend is a great time to start.

In fact, it's been a fantastic week or so in the virtual realm, with Lady Gaga's humongous One World concert and Bruce Springsteen's digital fundraiser both proving highlights.

There's plenty to choose from in the coming days, too. We've got archive streams of classic gigs and beloved music films, as well as live broadcasts of festivals and massive DJ sets.

Here's where to tune in this weekend.

Defected Records Virtual Festival 4.0

Defected Records has been turning living rooms into dancefloors with its series of virtual festivals, and returns for a fourth edition this Friday. Expect sets from Gorgon City, Simon Dunmore, Ferreck Dawn and more.

2pm-11pm, Friday, YouTube

The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine Sing-A-Long

It’s not footage of a Beatles gig, but this is a must-see for fans of the Fab Four — a singalong version of their classic animated film Yellow Submarine, complete with lyrics along the bottom. The flick features some of the band’s best known hits, from All You Need Is Love to When I’m Sixty-Four.

5pm, Saturday, YouTube

Vans For Bands Bus-Tival

Frank Turner, The Orb‘s Alex Paterson and former Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock are among the artists set to perform at this 10-hour virtual festival, set up by tour bus rental company Vans For Bands. Viewers will be encouraged to donate money to help the NHS fight back against the outbreak.

From 12pm, Saturday, Facebook

PlayOn Fest

This one won’t feature any new performances, but will instead re-run some classic live performances with footage taken from the Warner Music Group archives. Tune in to watch the likes of Coldplay, Green, Roddy Ricch, Cardi B, Ed Sheeran and more at some of the world’s biggest venues and festivals.

From 5pm each day, Friday-Sunday, YouTube

Room Service Fest

(Netflix)

Andy King from the Fyre Festival documentary — you know, that guy from the Fyre Festival documentary — is hosting this virtual festival, raising funds for charities fighting the outbreak over in the US. A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Yungblud are among the biggest names on the bill.

Friday-Sunday, roomservicefest.com

Pink Floyd

Following the likes of Radiohead and Metallica, Pink Floyd are now planning to stream a live gig from their archive every Friday. It kicked off last Friday, and this week features footage of the band performing live in Pompeii in 1971.

5pm, Friday, YouTube

Biffy Clyro

Biffy Clyro frontman Simon Neil will perform a stripped-back acoustic set in this live stream. It’s the fourth one he’s done — check the band’s YouTube page to catch up on the others.

6pm, Friday, YouTube

Earth Night 100 B2Bs

We’ve seen a fair few marathon DJ sets so far during this lockdown, but this one takes things to a whole new extreme — 100 DJs playing back-to-back. Organised by the group DJs For Climate Action, the stream will feature the likes of Soul Clap, DJ Raff, Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy and many more.

3pm-1am, Friday, earthnight.org

Live From Our Living Rooms

This stream comes in support of the DIY music community in Washington over in the States. Jeff Rosenstock, Joyce Manor and Kimya Dawson are among the artists set to perform. It kicks off at 3am UK time, so unless you want to stay up, this might be one to revisit the morning after.
