Two firefighters - a man and a woman believed to be aged in their 40s - have been treated by paramedics on a Hunter fireground.

Ambulance NSW confirmed just before 5pm on Tuesday that paramedics had treated two firefighters after they collapsed.

A fire burning at North Rothbury, which had threatened properties earlier on Tuesday, has been downgraded from an emergency warning to Watch and Act.

It is understood three properties have been damaged as a result of the fire, but the extend of the damage is unclear.

Wine Country Drive was closed and residents evacuated when the blaze was at its height.
