Live: Queensland Health discovers virus in sewage as WA records one new case

Queensland Health says routine wastewater testing returned a positive result for viral fragments of COVID-19 in sewage at a treatment plant at Carole Park in Ipswich, west of Brisbane.

The sample was taken last week as part of a joint Queensland Health, University of Queensland and CSIRO pilot research program to test sewage for traces of COVID-19.

The Western Australian Department of Health reported one new case of COVID-19 in the state; a returned overseas traveller in hotel quarantine.

This takes WA's total confirmed cases to 765.
