NSW Now: Travellers finish hotel quarantine, Sydney Fish Market open for Easter

One couple were particularly happy to get some fresh air.

Here's what you need to know this morning.

Coronavirus hotel quarantine ends

NSW Police will today escort hundreds of people who have been in mandatory self-isolation at a hotel in Sydney's CBD to their homes, ending their 14-day quarantine period.

Since arriving on March 26, a total of 288 people have been confined to rooms within the Swissotel.

"All travellers will undergo a final health check before departing the hotel and will still be required to adhere to all other directions under the Public Health Act as they make their way home," a police spokesperson said.

NSW Police also said three children in quarantine at the nearby Hilton Hotel were taken to hospital at around 10.00pm last night to be test for COVID-19 after developing symptoms.

Rent relief up to each state

The National Cabinet yesterday approved a rental waiver and deferral for commercial tenants but said residential tenancies must be handled by each state and territory.

The NSW Government is expected to give landlords a discount on land tax in exchange for providing rental relief to tenants.

This would give the owner of a $1 million property a $4,400 reduction in land tax, covering eight weeks of Sydney's median weekly rent of $525.

The National Cabinet put a moratorium on evictions in March because of the coronavirus pandemic but NSW is yet to implement this legislation.

Fish market open for Easter

Sydney's fish market will be open over the Easter long weekend but coronavirus social-distancing measures will be in place.

Good Friday is normally one of the busiest days of the year but management expects numbers will be significantly lower than usual.

They say a plan is still being drawn up with police to limit the numbers of customers on the site and in each store.

Pharmacy staff punched, spat on

A Lake Macquarie pharmacist said four staff have quit after becoming too scared to come to work because of abusive customers during the coronavirus crisis.

Kiely Hindmarch said she had been spat at, punched in the face and verbally abused.

She said customers were taking their frustrations about stock shortages out on pharmacy staff.

"The constant abuse, my staff and myself being spat on, and called Cs and F you, several times a day, not just once every couple of weeks, it's a daily exercise," she said.
