Traffic chaos on M2
Sydney's M2 motorway and Lane Cove Road are banked up after a multi-vehicle crash at Macquarie Park this morning in which one driver was trapped for an hour.
Lane Cove Road is particularly bad, with one lane closed in each direction and cars queuing for kilometres.
The crash, involving a truck and three cars, was reported around 6.00am and a motorist was taken to hospital with arm and shoulder injuries.
Homeless honour
The homeless community in Sydney's CBD will help design a memorial for a much loved figure known as Homeless Hank, who died last Christmas Eve.
Sydney City Council last night voted unanimously to erect a memorial in the form of either a plaque, tree or street mural, either in Martin Place or nearby.
Deputy Mayor Linda Scott said Hank Maslak was a well-known advocate for the homeless who had enjoyed a good life up until things went wrong.
Two hit and runs
Police are searching for the driver of a white ute after it reversed over a 96-year old man in Albion Park, south of Wollongong yesterday afternoon.
The elderly man sustained serious injuries and the male driver briefly rendered assistance before driving away, possibly in a 2010 Ford Falcon.
In a separate incident, a woman has been charged with dangerous driving and leaving the scene of a crash after colliding with a motorcycle in Penshurst yesterday morning.
The rider and passenger were thrown from the bike and both sustained multiple fractures.
Snake on the street
There were extraordinary scenes on a street in Marrickville in Sydney's inner west at the weekend after a 1.5-metre boa constrictor was discovered under a car.
It is believed the illegal pet — which drew a crowd of about 50 people — either escaped from a nearby property or was dumped by its owners.
According to the Department of Primary Industries, it is illegal to keep boa constrictors unless authorised as they can be a danger to Australia's biosecurity.
The snake will be euthanased later in the week.
Fatal house fire
Researchers said groups of males often saw street harassment as a form of entertainment and bonding.
A body has been found after a house fire overnight in Barnsley, near Lake Macquarie.
A neighbour noticed the house on fire around 11.15pm yesterday and Fire and Rescue NSW discovered the body after extinguishing the blaze around midnight.
Police have been told a 23-year-old man lived in the home has not been accounted for.
Sexual harassment
Accounts from hundreds of girls and women who have been harassed by groups of men in Sydney reveal many are being targeted outside schools.
Girls' rights organisation Plan International has released a report detailing the experiences of 750 girls and women who were harassed by groups of males in Sydney, Kampala, Lima, Madrid and Delhi.
Plan International's Hayley Cull said the experiences were surprisingly similar in all of the cities with a "disturbing amount of harassment in and around schools, including in Sydney".
