Live: NSW Now: Himalayas search continues for missing Sydney climber, farmers in alleged scam

This is what you need to know this morning.

Search continues for missing climber

The search is continuing today for a missing mountaineering expedition in the Himalayas that includes Sydney woman Ruth McCance.

Indian Air Force helicopters yesterday scanned the country's second highest peak, Nanda Devi, searching for Ms McCance as well as four Americans, two Britons and an Indian climber.

The group had been attempting to summit via a previously unused route.

Aerial and ground searches had to be called off yesterday because of bad weather.

The Himalayas have experienced unusually warm and wet weather this climbing season, and Indian officials said they believed the missing climbers were struck by an avalanche.

Farmers ripped off

A 34-year-old Parkes man will appear in court today accused of ripping off farmers in western NSW to the tune of $86,000.

In January, the rural crime prevention team responded to reports of a fraud involving the sale of hay and grain to various farmers in the Dubbo, Wellington, Yass Valley, Moulemein and Parkes areas.

Police will allege the Parkes man, who was operating a transport business, failed to deliver hay and grain purchased by the farmers.

Farmers in drought-stricken areas in NSW have been forced to buy feed in bulk, and it has become quite costly owing to the lack of rain.

Carbon monoxide poisoning

A family of five has been taken to hospital suffering from the effects of carbon monoxide after using a charcoal burner to heat their home in Sydney's west.

Authorities said the family had been operating the charcoal burner for several hours at the Cabramatta unit before it was extinguished and put in a cupboard.

NSW Ambulance acting inspector Andrew Cullen said paramedics treated the entire family for headaches, nausea, dizziness and lethargy.

They were transported to Liverpool Hospital and were in a stable condition.

Severe weather warning

There is a severe weather warning for much of the NSW coast today, with damaging winds averaging 60 kilometres per hour to 70kph, with gusts in excess of 90kph, expected to develop along the coastal fringe and higher parts of the ranges in the far south.

Wind gusts may reach 120kph in alpine areas with blizzard conditions expected.

The strong winds are expected from late today and will extend north tomorrow.

There is also an active dangerous surf warning, with south-facing beaches expected to be the worst affected.
