Health warning for respiratory illness in children
Emergency doctors are reporting an unseasonal rise in the number of young children presenting with respiratory illnesses.
Doctors say while the focus has been on COVID-19, other viruses are on the rise.
Testing data has revealed a jump in the number of children being diagnosed with respiratory syncytial virus, a common cause of pneumonia and bronchiolitis in children under five.
The NSW Health Department said an easing of social distancing restrictions may be contributing to the rise.
It urged parents to keep children home from school or childcare, even if they have only mild symptoms.
Man wanted for sexually touching woman
NSW Police are searching for a man who sexually touched a woman outside a Circular Quay shopping centre last week.
Authorities said at about 10:10pm on Saturday, December 5 a woman in her 20s was standing in Macquarie Place when a man approached her from the side and sexually touched her.
Police said the man then joined a group of people and walked west towards Pitt Street.
He was described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged 20-30, with short brown hair shaved on the sides, a short mohawak at the back and with sleeve tattoos on both arms down to his wrists.
Major development for Pyrmont revealed
A 20-year development strategy for Sydney's Pyrmont has been unveiled, including plans for a new six-star hotel.
According to NSW Government strategy documents, the plan aims to strike a balance between driving investment, creating jobs and protecting Pyrmont's heritage and character.
It includes the development of a new metro station, heralded to be the western gateway to Sydney's CBD.
It also flags a proposal from Star Casino to build a six-star hotel at the northern end of its site.
After concerns were raised during the strategy's exhibition period, the maximum height has now been limited to 110 metres with consideration given to sunlight reaching public and open spaces.
Bondi house collapse
An investigation is underway into what caused the partial collapse of a house in a residential street in Bondi yesterday afternoon.
An elderly couple were inside the house when the entire side of the building collapsed into a pile of rubble. The couple escaped unhurt.
Beds and other furniture could be seen inside the rooms where the walls and windows had fallen away.
The house is next door to a construction site and rescue teams said it appeared the foundations of the house had been undermined.
Bank teller charged over $250,000 fraud
A woman has been extradited from Victoria to NSW after police allege she fraudulently withdrew $250,000 from an account earlier this year.
Police alleged the 33-year-old woman made 23 illegal withdrawals from an account between February and March while she was working as a teller at a bank branch in Broken Hill.
She was charged with 25 counts of deal with identity information to commit indictable offence and 22 counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.
She was granted conditional bail to appear in Broken Hill court in February next year.
Makeover for Sydney sports ground
Two sports grounds in suburban Sydney could be in for a makeover.
The NSW Government will allocate funding to develop business cases for the revitalisation of Penrith Stadium and Brookvale Oval.
Acting Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said upgrading the two facilities would ensure they are utilised by all sport codes, as well as being used for entertainment, concerts, cultural events and local markets.
"We know there is interest in communities to overhaul community grounds so we are firstly doing the planning work to make sure the costs stack-up," Mr Lee said.
