NSW Now: COVID-19 warnings for Western Sydney locations, deer on the loose

Here's what you need to know this morning.

More COVID-19 alerts for Western Sydney

NSW Health has issued hotspot warnings for two tutoring venues in Western Sydney at which confirmed COVID-19 cases attended.

An alert has been issued for Al-Jabr mathematics tutoring centre in Auburn for Thursday, October 8, between 4:30pm and 8:45pm and Sunday, October 11, 10:00am to 4:30pm.

The other alert is for the ACE Tutoring in Parramatta from October 10 between 9:30am and 1:20pm.

Anyone who attended at those times is considered a close contact, and must get tested and isolate for 14 days regardless of the result.

Health officials yesterday issued a strong warning numbers could climb sharply, following an emergence of new clusters.

Maguire back in ICAC witness stand

Disgraced former Wagga Wagga MP Daryl Maguire is back in front of an ICAC inquiry for the second day as investigations into his business affairs continue.

It follows an explosive day yesterday when he admitted to using his parliamentary office for business dealings and receiving thousands of dollars in cash as part of a visa scam involving Chinese nationals.

It was also a day that saw embattled NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian on the attack over repeated questioning about what she knew about Mr Maguire's wrongdoing.

Two no-confidence motions against Ms Berejiklian were defeated in Parliament yesterday.

Deer on the loose

A deer has been spotted on the loose in inner-city Sydney just over a week after two deer were seen roaming in the inner-west.

NSW Police said the deer was spotted in Pyrmont, and RSPCA officers were working to capture it.

Earlier this month two deer were seen in Annandale, but only one could be caught.

The RSPCA said that deer was in poor health and had to be euthanised.

Drivers are being advised to exercise caution on roads around Pyrmont.

Bathurst 1000 kicks off

The Bathurst 1000 gets underway today but it is not clear what impact reduced ticket numbers will have on the local economy.

Around 4,000 tickets are on offer each day compared with 50,000 in previous years.

Elaine Hamer says her farmstay accommodation business is hosting a fraction of the 150 campers who usually stay.

"V8 weekend is usually the weekend where there's a little bit of icing on the cake as far as the business goes. So I guess this year, there's no icing on the cake. Certainly it's going to affect my overall annual income."
