First look at Sydney's plans
Plans to transform an area near Sydney's Central Station into a "cool and green" space have been revealed.
The City of Sydney Council will this month consider concept designs for the so-called 'Central Square'
Plans show Central Square consisting of four spaces: an upper and lower square, a new Railway Square and a walkway which would link to nearby streets.
It's part of the council's plan to create more green public spaces in the city.
Dead whale washes up
Authorities are warning people to stay away from a dead whale that washed up near Bulli Beach north of Wollongong last night.
The whale is now lodged in rocks and surrounded by sharks feeding on it.
The surrounding beaches at Bulli and Sandon Point are closed.
Deadline looms for NSW Nationals over koala ultimatum
The future of the NSW Coalition is on the line this morning after Premier Gladys Berejiklian gave Nationals Cabinet members until 9:00am to support the Government's controversial koala protection policy or resign.
Nationals MPs will attend another emergency meeting this morning after failing to come to a decision on the Premier's ultimatum last night.
Yesterday the Nationals said they would move to the crossbench, boycott joint party meetings and introduce a repeal bill to try and overturn the policy.
On Sky News last night, Deputy Premier and NSW Nationals leader John Barilaro appeared to step back the threats, saying the National Party still wanted to keep its positions in Cabinet.
Uni blocks 'sensitive' China report
A Sydney university, which recently found itself at the centre of a China controversy, last year conducted a review into the potential threat of foreign influence.
The University of New South Wales commissioned the China Engagement Review and delivered the findings to its board in August last year.
Basic details were obtained under Freedom of Information laws, but the university has blocked the report's release, saying it contains "sensitive" information relating to China.
Man charged after stabbing
A man has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing on an Auburn street yesterday.
Police allege the man stabbed another man, aged 40, during a fight on Station Road about 7:00pm.
He was taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition after undergoing surgery.
Following inquiries, police arrested a 32-year-old man and charged him with causing wounding and/or grievous bodily harm to person with an attempt to murder.
Child protection
Public tip-offs about online child sexual exploitation material have surged during the coronavirus pandemic, prompting the authorities to warn that, statistically, every Australian will know an abuser.
Reports to the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE) increased by 122 per cent as the nation went into coronavirus lockdowns through April, May and June.
Last week alone, more than nine men were put before courts as a result of Australian Federal Police (AFP) child exploitation investigations.
