Gary Murphy was convicted of the 1986 murder of Sydney nurse Anita Cobby (L).

Here's what you need to know this morning.

Cobby murderer bashed

One of the five men convicted of the 1986 murder of Sydney nurse Anita Cobby has been bashed in jail.

Gary Murphy was assaulted at the Long Bay Correctional Complex on Tuesday morning, Corrective Services NSW confirmed.

Murphy was one of five men, including two of his brothers, given a life sentence over the infamous killing that shocked Australia.

Murphy, now 61, was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

House fire deaths

Police say three children have died in a house fire in Singleton in the NSW Hunter Valley.

Two girls were taken to Singleton Hospital but could not be saved and the body of a boy was later found inside the house.

A 31-year-old woman and eight-year-old boy escaped from the house and have been treated for smoke inhalation.

Emergency services were called to a home about 3.30am and neighbours said they heard screams as officers tried to enter.

Mascot Towers papers 'in Newcastle'

Documents requested by engineers assessing the cracked Mascot Towers on Thursday have still not arrived because they are stored on the Central Coast.

Bayside Council Mayor Bill Saravinovski said yesterday the council had the documents and were "on to it" but they had to be located from a storage facility on the Central Coast.

"There's no cover-up," he said.

"Even if I need to drive up there myself, we will cooperate".

It comes after a new engineers' report, provided to the building's owners' corporation on Monday afternoon, said it appeared the block was "moving in a downward motion" and urged owners and tenants to remove all their possessions.

Premier's 'priorities' revealed

The Premier has started unveiling her agenda following her March state election win, announcing a focus on reducing homelessness and suicide rates.

Gladys Berejiklian has added the social issues to the list of her "Premier's priorities" — issues she has handpicked to tackle.

She planned to halve the number of homeless people in the state by 2025, she said.

The Premier also wants to reduce the rate of suicides by 20 per cent within four years.

Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley flood test

Emergency services are carrying out an emergency management exercise in Sydney today to check preparedness for a major flood in the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley.

Exercise Deerubbin, at Sydney Olympic Park, will involve more than 25 NSW government agencies and volunteer organisations, including the NSW Police Force and the State Emergency Service (SES).

The exercise aims to set up, test and decommission a large care facility, with 500 role players and emergency service responders.

There may be an increase in emergency service vehicles around the area.
